Potty Training

Potty training will never be a one size fits all approach and there isn't an exact age for when children will be ready. The key signs we look out for are: 

  • Child's communication is sufficient

  • Nappy dry for periods between 1-2 hours

  • Child has developed some dressing skills

  • Child is aware when they are passing urine or stools.

Potty Training with SEND

Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities may find it more difficult to learn to use a potty. We've gathered content from the NHS, Contact (Charity for families with disabled children) and ERIC which offer guidance on how to approach potty training.
